"Common Mistakes with HVAC Systems"

Mistake #1

Skipping Research

HVAC service quality depends heavily on the contractor’s expertise. Many homeowners make the mistake of hiring the first contractor they come across without checking credentials or experience. Since HVAC maintenance directly impacts the air you breathe every day, it’s essential to choose a contractor with proven experience and strong client reviews.

Mistake #2

Misunderstanding the Costs

Customers should conduct research and be aware of what an extensive upgrade entails so that they are not cheated when it comes to costs. Awareness of the job to be performed equips the customer to negotiate discounts or rebates. We would hate to see our competitors charging more than us simply because their clients do not understand the costs of HVAC repairs or related services. If you have a project on the go, knowing the scope of the upgrade and the materials used can help you negotiate fair costs and avoid surprises.

Mistake #3

Lifetime Filters

A common misconception related to filters and maintenance schedules is that if you install a high-efficiency allergenic filter and or a lifetime washable filter you can drive down your maintenance costs. The hard fact is that there is no such thing on the market as a ‘lifetime filter.’ In fact, heavily plated filters restrict airflow immensely, cause your system to work twice as hard, and this leads to frequent repairs. You must question a contractor on the type of filters they intend to install and how it would impact your maintenance schedule and costs.

Mistake #4

Strict Yearly Duct Cleaning

Duct cleaning isn’t necessary every year and, when overdone, can wear down the system. Routine cleaning should be based on the level of dust and pollutants in your home. Proper cleaning, done once every three to five years, is usually enough to maintain efficiency and air quality.

Mistake #5

Lack of Regular Maintenance

People make this mistake when they misunderstand the point I made in the last paragraph. Cleaning your ducts too often is a waste of money, but not addressing your system often enough is just as bad! You can do damage to your system if you push off duct cleaing for too long. Discuss a routine maintenance schedule with your HVAC provider to keep your system running smoothly.
